What are Probiotics?

Steministas is a youtube channel created by Rachel and Emma who are graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill. The channel was created out of a desire to educate the public about the science seen in the news and equip people to be able to better understand science.

Their latest video is about probiotics which has been a hot topic in science news! They did some awesome research and even consulted one of the faculty members in the Nutrition Department at UNC, Dr. Ian Carroll, who is an expert on the human microbiota.

Enjoy this video and check out their other videos on their youtube channel! They even have one on the ketogenic diet.

Steministas Video Description:

Gut health is all the rage nowadays. We know that the gut is important to overall health but do probiotics really help our gut health? In this video, we tackle some of the big questions in gut/probiotics research like if probiotics help recolonize the gut after antibiotics, how everyone’s gut is so different and the gut-brain axis. We also consult with Dr. Ian Carroll, a professor in the Nutrition Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to get some insight on where the field is going and his hopes for the future.
